The phrase "The sun shone, having no alternative, on the nothing new" is the opening line of Samuel Beckett's novel Murphy.

When I heard this sentence for the first time – it was actually in Patrick Melrose by Edward St. Aubyn – it struck me deeply. So much sadness... Or is it perhaps a message? Don't worry so much, because life goes on and the Earth keeps spinning, even if you feel like some pain is breaking you in half right now and your days are coming to an end?

Well, no, you won't break. You are not allowed to give up.

But…

Why is it that sometimes we just can't help being touched by everything?

‘...And there will be rivers of blood and the wicked shall be drowned. Nor shall the high places be spared. And the bridges shall be swept away. And men shall say that the end of the world cometh upon them.‘

No, no, no!

The sun is shining and it's time to seize the f* day.

We have no alternative.

This is another beginning.

Another new day.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars… Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus… what? Yes, and there are still other planets that never stop spinning either. And we are just a pale blue dot in an infinite universe… So don't worry. Besides, if your problem has a solution, there's no point in worrying. And if it doesn't, worrying won't help.

With love, Vi. ❤︎
